Why You Need A Lawyer If You’re A Victim Of Contraceptive Pills?

Birth control pills such as Yaz, Yasmin, Gianvi, BeYaz, and Safyral claim to be highly effective at preventing pregnancy. However, pills like these have been reported for serious side effects in many cases. Some of the commonly reported side effects of these birth control pills are:

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

Pulmonary Embolism (PE)

Blood Clots

Heart Attack

Sudden Death

Strokes

Sagittal Venous Thrombosis

Superficial Venous Thrombosis

If you or your loved has fallen victim to pills like Yaz, you need to speak with an experienced Yaz lawyer to case and know if you are entitled to compensation.

How can a lawyer help you?

  • Many lawyers offer free consultation and no fee is charged unless you win.
  • Your insurance may not fully cover you for your loss and things may get worse. You need assistance from a professional under these circumstances.
  • Using all his knowledge and experience, your attorney will help make sure that you obtain the appropriate compensation.
  • Another quality reason to seek help from a lawyer is to ensure that manufacturers such are held accountable and do not place dangerous drugs in the stream of commerce and further they should adequately warn of any risks in the future.  By commencing an action the injury must be reported to the FDA who helps evaluate what to do with the product.
Recommendation:

If you or a loved one used Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella, Gianvi, or BeYaz in the past and suffered a VTE event such as a DVT, SVT, stroke, or PE, you should speak with a lawyer ASAP to see if you may qualify for compensation for your injuries.  Cases that occurred before the label change in April of 2012 may still qualify for Yasmin compensation, but may be impacted by the statute of limitations, so it is critical to speak with a Yasmin lawyer as soon as possible to preserve your rights.

Signs and complications associated with DVT

DVT or deep vein thrombosis occurs when a blood clot is formed in any of the deeper veins of the body. This medical condition is often accompanied by swelling or pain in the leg. However, in some conditions, it may exhibit no early signs.

Some medical conditions, remaining immobile for a long time, surgery or an accident can lead to this medical problem. Contraceptives like Yasmin can cause deep vein thrombosis.

Symptoms:

  • Swelling and pain in the affected area. Sometimes both the legs may swell, but it happens very rarely.
  • A common sign of DVT is pain in the leg. Usually pain starts in the lower calves and feels similar to soreness or cramping.

These are the most common signs that will indicate the onset of this medical condition, but they are not necessarily visible in every case. Sometimes the problem can take place without any clear signs.

Further complications of DVT:

Pulmonary embolism (PE): A common complication that is related with DTV. A PE occurs when a thrombosis or blood clot blocks one of the blood vessels in the lungs. The thrombus breaks loose and travels to the lungs via bloodstream. This medical problem can turn out to be fatal if not treated at the right time. Therefore, make sure to watch out for any signs and do seek medical help if necessary.

Signs associated with PE:

  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Feeling dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Coughing up blood
  • Erratic pulse
  • Pain in chest, which gets worse every time the person coughs or takes deep breath

Postphlebitic syndrome: This is another complication associated with deep vein thrombosis. It is also known as postthrombotic syndrome. There is a collection of symptoms, which is denoted by this syndrome. Those signs would include:

  • Edema (swelling in the legs)
  • Change in the skin color
  • Skin sores
  • Leg pain

This syndrome takes place when blood clot damages the inner veins. Due to the damage, blood flow gets restricted to the affected area. Postphlebitic syndrome may not show any signs for even a few years after DVT.

When to seek medical attention?

If you happen to notice any of the signs similar to that of DVT, consult a doctor. If you notice signs indicative of PE, a condition that results from deep vein thrombosis, seek medical help as soon as possible.  If treated early the outlook is good.  Generally blood thinners will be administered, such as Cumadin, Heparin and Lovenox shots.  Occasionally, a blood thinner like Xarelto may be used which can cause its own complications.

As medical technology advances, one would think that the risks of new generation products should be lower than earlier generations, but surprisingly that is not the case.  Experts have linked the use of birth control pills like Yaz with higher incidents of blood clot related events than the earlier generations of the pill.  The various associated risk factors of new hormone products like Yasmin, Yaz, Beyaz, Ocella and Gianvi are  arterial thrombotic, thromboembolic and venous issues that include myocardial infarction, thromboembolism, stroke, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE) and death.

Because of progestin and drospirenone properties, birth control pills may attract a host of other health problems as well. Drospirenone, the fourth generation hormone found in YAZ may effect potassium levels and eventually lead to irregular heartbeat, changes in muscle control, muscle weakness, fatigue, and even paralysis.

Some of the most commonly seen side effects of consumption of birth control pills -

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) health risks

The use of birth control pills like Yasmin causes deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which is also known as venous thrombosis disease. It forms in the vein of legs, thighs, or pelvis. If it gets lodged in the brain, lungs, heart, or in any other area, it can cause severe damage in the respective body part.

Pulmonary embolism health risks

This fatal health concern can develop with frequent consumption of contraceptives. Unfortunately, its symptoms and signs are nonspecific. Thus, additional tests are needed to be conducted in order to confirm or diagnosis pulmonary embolism.

Heart attack & stroke

With regular intake of contraceptive pills, the risk of hyperkalemia and ensuing blood clots is likely to occur. When the clot breaks off, it travels through the body and get lodged in either the heart or brain, causing a heart attack or stroke.

Symptoms, which if experienced call for immediate medical attention:

  • Severe allergic reactions like itching, rashes
  • Pain, swelling, or tenderness in leg
  • Chest pain or heaviness
  • Coughing of blood
  • Fainting
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Left-sided pain in jaw, neck, shoulder, or arm
  • Mood changes
  • Migraine
  • Missed menstrual period
  • Numbness of an arm or leg
  • Dizziness
  • Liver problems like yellowing of the skin or eyes, fever, dark urine, pale stools, loss of appetite
  • Unusual or severe vaginal bleeding
  • Vision changes
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Severe stomach pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Severe vomiting
In the aftermath of such life threatening health problems, numerous lawsuits have been filed in various states alleging the link between Yasmin, Yaz, Ocella, Gianvi and Beyaz to a higher rate of side effects. If you took Yaz and experienced such serious side effects or for that matter have lost a loved one who was prescribed Yaz, then speak with a lawyer who has successfully brought such suits in the past.
